shades: a new blanket

Finally, I have finished my new blanket! In the post about warm sweaterday you already had a sneek peak, but now its's done. It had been a while since I had made a 'one of a kind' blanket. They usually take up a lot of time, so I have to do them in between my orders. It has been busy lately, but I really wanted to make something unique for my shop.
It's a very big blanket with the 'tough' fabric as a basis. The broad crocheted border has an ombre effect and goes from black to white. Between every row is a small rib.


I also made a short film, sort of a making of, where you can see the blanket being build row by row.

crocheted lamps for the US

Last week, I finally got my 110 volts bulbs from the US. For a while I'm trying to make my crocheted lamps suitable for the US market. Since the voltage in the Netherlands is 220 volts and in the US 110, I can not use the same bulbs. After a lot of searching and mailing I have found almost the same globe light bulbs in 110 volts. The only difference is that the straight part is a bit shorter, it doesn't have the wider part. Etsy buyers can now choose with every lamp listing what voltage their lamp must have.

Usually you can expect about 3 blogs a week from me. But I'm so busy right now that it's just not possible. I'm also going on my holiday next Saturday, so I decided to give blogging a little break. knotted pendant lamps by Kwangho Lee

A while ago I came across this picture on, of course, Pinterest and I was in love. At the time I couldn't get to the source of the picture. In my research for another post recently I came across it again and this time I found the designer: Kwangho Lee. He is a designer from Seoul, Korea. His basic design principle is giving new meaning and function to everyday objects and materials. The inspiration came from his grandmother knitting when he was young and from his grandfather who recycled everything he found. The lamp that first caught my eye is entirely made from thick electrical wire. For this restaurant he made them from rope. pendant lamps in The Atlantic Restaurant  The technique he uses is a sort of self-invented finger knitting. Every piece is entirely handmade.
